It’s now 11 years later, and I still don’t have an answer.
24 Years ago, when poor, war-torn Liberia was put under sanctions by the Americans in 2001, and following, by then, 11 years of crippling sanctions on Iraq, I wrote a Letter to The Editor, which got published, asking whether sanctions will be the weapons of the future and if so, does that mean we can do away with bombs and bullets? I have the answer to that question now. The answer is yes, sanctions are now used in wartime as a weapon of mass destruction, but we’re not getting rid of the bombs and bullets, we’re keeping those. Lots and lots of them. And we’ve added starvation and drones to our wartime repertoire. Oh, and tariffs. Those are becoming a big hit now too.
Don’t you just love where our humanity is going?
